If you have spent most of the winter hibernating and avoiding activities that require you to leave the couch, then you are probably feeling less than fantastic. Unless you want your health insurance provider to drastically hike you premium on account of your reduced fitness levels, it is a good idea for you to get up and start a workout programme and healthy eating regime.
Getting back into exercise after a long break can be really difficult, and for this reason it is important to go easy on yourself. Don't immediately run a marathon, for example. This will only result in injury and the experience is likely to be unpleasant enough to prevent you from putting on your trainers again any time soon.
Instead, gradually ease yourself back into your work out programme. Start with a few small jogs every couple of days; this will give your muscles time to regenerate, and then, once you are feeling fitter, you can build up distance and intensity until you are back on form.
Along with your intelligently managed workout programme you will want to introduce a few changes to your food intake. Again, don't try to go cold turkey immediately; all this will do is scare you away, so to speak. Simply begin to cut unhealthy options from your daily regime; avoid chocolate, cheese and the like.
Easing yourself back into a workout plan is never easy, but it isn't impossible either. In order to ensure you enjoy maximum success, start with a few small alterations here and there, and gradually build on these until you are fighting fit and healthy once more.
