Let's face it, we all start off with the best intentions. We are going to go on a diet to lose those extra kilos, start a rigorous exercise regime and buy an electric bicycle to get us up those hills instead of taking the car.
We all know that overeating and not exercising enough is bad for you. We have watched the programmes on TV, read the books and articles and in theory we know what we have to do. It is, however, the practise that we fall down so badly on.
Part of the problem is that we set ourselves unachievable goals. It is either all or nothing and the problem comes about pretty quickly when we find that in our bid to get healthy we have set our sights too high and our aims too far. We soon realise that it is not practical to go to the gym five days a week or give up alcohol completely and that is when the plan starts to fall apart.
If only we set achievable goals then we have a far greater chance of achieving them. We are only human and if we constantly fail at our targets then we are more likely to give up completely than readjust what we are aiming for.
Set your goals for improving your health realistically and you have a much better chance of succeeding.
